I Get Paid Zero Dollars?

 Hello everyone,

Today I will be writing about the singers who sing at the Super Bowl. As you may know, these singers do not get paid to perform in the Super Bowl. Some singers have actually turned down the offer because of this while others have taken the opportunity anyway, believing it will get them a higher profile. Today I will be going over the pros and cons of singing at the super bowl such as popularity and other things such as cost and more.

First off let's start with some of the potential benefits of performing in the super bowl. One benefit could be that it is a good way to boost your popularity as millions of people watch you perform. Another thing that I have thought of is quite similar to the previous one. The value of advertisements during the super bowl is quite high. A 30-second commercial cost 5.6 million dollars. A Super Bowl performance goes on for about 12 minutes long. If you were to air a commercial for that long, however, it would cost around 120 million dollars. Which is a crazy amount. On top of that, the artist does not need to pay anything to perform. If they are selected and called by the NFL (National Football League), then do not pay anything.

One other thing is that no props need to be bought by the artist. The cost covered by the NFL for performances can reach 10 million dollars. This is sort of like a fee that they pay. The only difference is that instead of giving them money they allow them to skip out on something they usually do. This is another benefit that is a crazy amount of money.

For a balanced view let us look at some of the facts.  Maroon 5 saw a 488 percent surge in record sales following the band’s 2019 performance. Missy Elliott saw a 282 percent increase following her 2015 performance. For Bruno Mars in 2014, it was a 164 percent jump. In 2013, Beyoncé’s online sales jumped 230 percent while the sales of Destiny’s Child catapulted by 600 percent. So it is sort of a gamble. Although you are almost guaranteed to see an increase in your sales, it is still uncertain how much of an increase it will be. For example, Bruno Mars saw a 164 percent increase while Destiny's Child went up 600 percent when Beyonce was the one performing.

Now let's look at some of the downsides. There are very few downsides to performing at the Super Bowl but the biggest one is quite obviously that no one is paying you. Some artists want to have the money up-front instead of having it through a spike in sales or popularity. This is only some artists though as some do not mind having been paid nothing as long as they see an increase in their sales.

This next reason is related to the first one. No one is paying you up-front. This could mean you do not have the money to re-invest immediately. This could be a problem and could hold people back from taking it to the next level.

So to sum everything up, some of the good things about performing at the Super Bowl include Fame, Free Advertising, Increase in Sales, and Costs Covered by the NFL. On the other hand, you do not get money upfront and you also cannot re-invest in your business immediately because of that. To look at things from a more balanced point of view, some artists have spikes in sales of up to 600 percent while others do a little more than 100.

My opinion on this matter is that performing at the Super Bowl is a great way to raise awareness at so on. How much is uncertain as can be seen in the above statistics. Another thing that can be seen there is that the reasons to perform outweighs the reasons not to perform. For those reasons, I would conclude that performing at the Super Bowl is worth it.

I hope you enjoyed that. Let me know in the comments below if you would like to see more articles like this. Feel free to give your opinion on this event.
