Should We Restore Important Works Of Art As They Decay Or Should We Let Them Age Natrually? (2 Minute Read)

Hello everyone,

Have you ever pondered about whether or not the creator of the Notre dame truly wanted us to restore his craft to a modified version that is sort of a rip-off or if he wanted us to enjoy the work until it broke down and then remember it in our hearts? Chances are that you probably have never thought about this. Well, today I  will show reasons that you would never think about as to why we should let historical monuments be demolished by nature without us interfering.

First of all, making new versions of the old artwork is disrespectful to the original artist because it is kind of like he or she has a copyright on it since they were the original people who made them, that is not us. Then when we make a new version of the original artwork it is kind of like we are ripping off the original artist of their original work and creativity by making a new version that does not capture the original ones glory as well as the fact that we are not giving the original person any credit.

One may argue that since we are not trying to get any personal gain or money it is justified. Well, really the person who makes the recreation of the old work does actually get paid for their work and the materials that they bring along, and overall that person gets a lot of money and also says that the Eiffel tower burnt down. France would lose so much money because they are losing so many tourists who are coming to see the Eiffel tower. Therefore when they pay somebody to rebuild it really they are getting tons of money and Paris becomes a popular tourist attraction spot again.

So to sum up we should not rebuild statues and monuments because then we are slightly ripping the original artist of their work and also we are being very disrespectful to them. Finally, they are not for no gain as many people may think. So with that, I would hope that you can now see the world differently.

  1. Fantastic post! I believe that what is most important is the message that the artist sought to convey. The physical medium is less important. So, I agree with you that restoration isnt the way to go!

  2. Yes what I am saying is that we should all enjoy things while they last and not keep on wanting more.
